Melbourne Crown Casino Wedding Mercy + Andrew

Thank you Mercy + Andrew :) We really enjoyed taking care of your wedding photography and wedding video. Shooting on the Crown Casino rooftop again was really fun too :) Thanks for having us.

Korean and Australian natural wedding photography Marcus + Yunmi

If you look at these pictures, can you guess which season they were taken? Spring? Summer? Nope. Marcus and Yunmi were married on a sunny day in winter :D
Marcus is an old friend who I hadn’t seen for a few years, so it was really nice to finally catch up with him again, meet his new wife Yunmi, and take care of their wedding photography.

Chinese Vietnamese wedding photography Sarah + Kelvin

Sarah + Kelvin found White Heights through a number of their friends who had previously booked us for their wedding photography and wedding video :) During their portrait session, we found a tree lined path way that ran east-west, and took advantage of the sun setting at the west end. Doesn’t look like winter at all :D

Natural Wedding Photography with Mike + Maggie

Mike and Maggie booked White Heights for wedding photography and wedding video not long after we shot their friends’ wedding (Adrian + Xinni). Mike + Maggie were married at the start of Autumn, which is just about the nicest time to shoot weddings :D Lots of extended daylight, and not too hot :)

Natural wedding photography in Melbourne, Justin + Thao

We had a very very happy day with Justin + Thao! Their very kind testimonial (below) explains it best :D

“I’ve been following the White Heights Media crew now for around 3 years. When our wedding came up, we made contact right away, for video, and after meeting Kaiwin, we knew we wanted him to be at our wedding for photography. He is the most easy going, calm and friendliest person you will ever meet. After the pre wedding shoot, we were so excited by the photos. The photos from the wedding day itself were even better and so so beautiful. Kaiwin is an expert at using light in his photographs, Justin has said on countless occasions. The video team were very friendly and cheeky, Handy, Chris & David. They made a beautiful same day edit video. I’ve already seen it about 20 times because i’m so in love with their work :) From making my decision of wanting them for my wedding 3 years ago, to our engagement and our wedding day, it was been wonderful working with Kaiwin and the boys. I said this to them on the night, and I’m going to say it again. These guys made my dreams come true, by delivering amazing photos and a video that will help me remember this special day for the rest of my life. Thank you! Love Justin & Thao”

Varying light conditions at Evy + Heng’s wedding :)

The White Heights style, whenever possible, is known for high key, soft, warm pastels (like the 1st picture below). But that style of natural wedding photography is somewhat dependent on the environment’s available light.

What do we do when conditions don’t allow this? What do we do with super bright, single direction, high contrast, overhead light (like in the 2nd picture below)?

And what about multiple sources of light, varying in temperature, tone and strength (like in the 3rd picture below)?

When it comes to natural wedding photography, we need to shoot things as they occur, not how we direct or cause them to be. We don’t need to control the behavior of the variables (the subjects and the light), but we can control how we capture these variables, and still produce work that is consistent in style, as shown in the 3 photos above. For all their differences, we can control framing (how we treat the edge limits of the shot), composition (how we arrange the subjects of the shot) and blacks (tones that contain little to no color information). When our treatment of these variables is consistent, we begin to define our own distinguishable style. And it’s consistency after all, that defines style.

Chinese wedding photography in Melbourne Emily + Alvin

Emily and Alvin booked the White Heights team to take care of their wedding photography and wedding video. Their wedding included both contemporary western and traditional Chinese wedding elements. Here’s a small collection of photos from their gatecrashing door games. Activities like these will usually see a groom pay in blood, sweat and dollars so he can see his bride. But obviously it’s all worth it :)
