Thanks to our super helpful assistants for this shoot :) Xiao En assisted my photography aaaaaall day from when I first scouted the location for my initial set up shots, to the very end of our pack down after the shoot. You’re the best Xiao En!
Another big thank you to Jane, the 2nd model, who trusted us when we first approached her as random strangers, though I wouldn’t advise her to do that again :)
A special thank you note for my girls Naomi and Sharon for being my assistants on the day. You girls were really helpful and patient throughout the makeup, styling, gown changing and the actual photo shoot. The day really was hot, wasn’t it? And those scary mossies… Luckily we had a strong Australian insect repellant! We were also blessed to have Sabah’s finest hair and makeup artist: Audrey Lee San Chang.
Our engagement photography sessions are always defined by the couple we shoot for. Some couples are a little more reserved, some are little more playful. Well I think that Venus and William’s prewedding photos show them to be a tasteful couple. William bought that dress for Venus specifically for this shoot, and I was so glad he did. It gave us such a striking splash of colour, helping to break up some of Melbourne’s usual monochromy.
The pre wedding photography session ended with some beautiful light, some of the prettiest colours we’ve been blessed to shoot with in a long time. In fact we enjoyed the evening so much that I’m sharing these pictures in a backwards fashion: starting with the end of the day at the top, and the beginning of our photo shoot at the bottom here.
What’s with the rolling pin? Well, we ran out of hands to carry props for Henry and Valentine when we arrived at the fields, so Henry carried it himself while we crossed the paddock :) You see, Valentine is a pastry chef. In fact she made all of the delicious picnic treats herself (with the Macaroons from The Cupcake Family where she works).
We had a lot of fun together, but more important than fun – we shot beautiful pictures! Though the day had been quite dull and overcast, the sun eventually came through to give us just about perfect light for this pre-wedding photo session. I really think that with engagement photos like this we can look forward to some really beautiful wedding photography too. Henry and Valentine will be back from Indonesia for their Melbourne wedding later in the year. Lots to look forward to :)
